Restaurant Reviews

You may not think you’ll find delicious Mexican food in a tiny Oklahoma town. That just means you’ve never been to El Mexicano in Perkins About 2 weeks ago I was meeting a friend for lunch. He lives in Cushing OK, and there is really nothing between Cushing and Stillwater other than Perkins, so we …

Take a step back in time at Celebrity Restaurant in Tulsa. Opened in 1963 as a private club, it remains in the Samara family to this day and continues to serve outstanding food.  This spring I’ve been doing in-person stewardship visits with a number of our club seat holders. It gets me out of the office, …

Yukon is the Czech capital of Oklahoma. Who knew?! What I do know is that you must check out The Miller Grill, voted best restaurant in town. I only eat red meat occasionally, until I’m getting ready to donate platelets. Don’t get me wrong, I love red meat and could it eat regularly. I’m just trying …

Last weekend I visited my friends Joni & Tony in Flower Mound, TX. I usually take my time Sunday mornings: no alarm, go running, have breakfast, sometimes hit Central Market, and leave late morning.  But last weekend was different. Oklahoma and Texas have had so much rain this spring…tons more than normal. In May it …

Even though I had quite a few samples at the Dallas Farmer’s Market last Saturday morning, I didn’t go crazy on them; I knew that by the time I got back to Joni’s house it would be time to start thinking about lunch.  My original plan had been to leave the market by 11, but …

I love farmer’s markets. About 15 years ago I discovered one on the north side of Baltimore.  It was an hour’s drive from my apartment in College Park, and my mom thought I was nuts for driving that far when there were other markets much closer. But this one was huge.  They had dozens of …

On Friday after our long lunch, it was high time for a nap.  Joni and I both crashed as soon as we got back to the house.  A little later that evening it was time for our next meal.  Tony owns his own business and works from home, so it’s normally just me and Joni …

As the sister restaurant to Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, it’s no surprise that Del Frisco’s Grille takes food and atmosphere up several notches from your regular casual dining restaurant.

Most of my donor visits this year have been with club seat holders, but I have had a few meetings with suiteholders.  This was the case Friday morning, when I met with a brand new client in Dallas.  I figured since I was in Dallas anyway it would be a great opportunity to meet and …

As I mentioned in my most recent The Week That Was post, over the weekend I went to visit my friends Joni and Tony in Flower Mound, TX.  I don’t get to see them very often outside of football season, and I’ll take any excuse to go to Dallas.  By the time I arrived at …

The delicious food at Hefner Grill in OKC is topped only by the gorgeous views of Lake Hefner. You’ll keep going back for more. One of the biggest perks of my job is meeting so many wonderful people. The challenge, however, is that I only see most donors on gameday, so I don’t get to know …

Last week I had lunch with a donor couple in Stillwater.  They had originally recommended Panera Bread, but that’s just kind of boring for me.  So I tossed out a number of other recommendations, and they came back with The Rancher’s Club.  I haven’t been there in forever, so I agreed. I honestly never remember …

Last week I had several appointments with club seat holders in Tulsa, but nobody scheduled for lunch.  I didn’t realize that until 2 days before, so I asked my friend Shawn if he wanted to meet up.  We hadn’t seen each other for a while, so he agreed.  I went back to my trusty list …

Last week I had a lunch appointment with a club seat holder couple.  They recommended Tucker’s Onion Burgers. Normally if the suggestion is a place I’ve been before I’ll ask for something different. But my last trip to Tucker’s was the new location on Classen Blvd; this one was at the original location.  How can …
