Ethnic Cuisine

The restaurant scene in downtown Silver Spring MD has exploded in the past 15 years. But don’t neglect the older local spots nearby, including Ruang Khao Thai. Last month I went back to Maryland for Thanksgiving. I’ve only been able to do that one other time since moving to Oklahoma, due to work. But our …

Tokyo Pot is absolutely a hidden gem in Stillwater OK. Run, don’t walk, for this authentic and unique experience. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Since moving to Stillwater in 2007, I’ve been very lucky to never have a home football game on my birthday week. Several times we’ve had away games that week, which was the …

Thai Cafe in Stillwater, OK may be a little off the beaten path, but it’s such a great find for delicious Thai cuisine in a small town. I have eaten at Thai Cafe a million times, and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Stillwater. My friend Mary and I worked together for 6 years, …

For a unique dining experience in Tulsa, visit Chopsticks Restaurant. Enjoy Classic Chinese favorites, as well Chinese & Korean special dishes. Over the past 2 years, I’ve developed a very close group of friends in Stillwater. We’re all about the same age, and even though a few have kids, we all still enjoy doing adult funtivities …

About a year ago, I was in Oklahoma City running errands, and discovered Sheesh Mahal. I came across this Middle Eastern restaurant by chance, as I was looking on Restaurant.com for a place to eat lunch. If you’ve never used restaurant.com, I highly recommend it. You buy gift certificates that give you 50% off of …

It’s very rare that I get to go back to Maryland during football season, but I found a really cheap flight in late October so I jumped at the chance. Unfortunately it didn’t coincide with a Maryland home football game, which is the perfect opportunity to see lots of friends. Thankfully I was still able …

I had a restaurant.com certificate for Shawn’s Sushi. The first time I tried to go about a month ago, it was closed for Chinese New Year. I guess I’d never tried to eat at an Asian restaurant during their new year, because this was the first time I had ever run into that. Lesson learned. And then 2 weeks ago …

Yesterday was a long day in Tulsa.  I had 4 appointments with donors, starting at 11AM.  But the good thing is, I had plans for both lunch and dinner, which equals 2 blog posts!  Originally I had a lunch meeting scheduled with a suiteholder, but they had to cancel so I met my friend Shawn instead.  …

Hanami Japanese Restaurant is just one of the many dining options in College Park MD. Rated one of the top in town, showcasing delicious sushi creations. This is the first year since 2007 I’ve been able to go back to Maryland for Thanksgiving. Normally we have a home football game either Thanksgiving weekend or the …

I seem to always have really good luck with restaurants in Wichita.  I’ve yet to be disappointed, and TripAdvisor has never led me astray.  Wichita is the perfect place to stop for lunch on my way home from Kansas City, and I try to hit there right around lunchtime. I came across Manna Wok, and …

UPDATE: When I originally visited this restaurant, it was called Cafe Mezza & Grille. The restaurant underwent renovations, and is now called Mezza Grille. Last month I was in Houston for a work event, and unfortunately this trip was kind of a nightmare. I was in a school rental van, and the tire went soft. I stopped to …

The Saturday morning of the Big 12 tourney I woke up, ran 6 miles, and then headed home.  Probably not the best idea, because my legs were super sore from sitting in the car for so long and I was exhausted after a couple of hours.  But I timed it out perfectly to hit Wichita about …

20 years ago my dad’s cholesterol was really high, so the doctor put him on a 30-day, no-meat diet.  He decided he liked it, and hasn’t eaten meat since.  I was still living at home at the time and had no desire or plan to give up meat (and still don’t), so when they cooked, …
